I recently returned from my #Atlantic2Andes cycle and a few people have asked me how similar, distance wise, it was to the Tour de France, the world’s most difficult cycle race. So I did the research and this is where I got to…
The Tour de France 2016 was 3519km and my cycle was c3700km
They averaged 167.5km per cycling day compared to my 132km
The Tour is raced over 23 days including 2 rest days. I took 29 days with 1 rest day
The longest Tour day was 237.5 km, mine was 180km
The max altitude for the Tour was 2408m whereas mine was 4670m
The most famous road for the Tour was probably the Champs-Elysees. Mine was the Death Road
The Tour is 100% on asphalt… My route included asphalt, mud, gravel, sand and salt flats
There are a few other small differences such as my trip being solo and unsupported, included nights sleeping in a tent and my bike carrying 4 full panniers but essentially I think we can agree its about the same… ;)
NOTE: This is just a little fun so sorry if I have got a couple of statistics wrong!
