Most people assume that due to the fact that I am an endurance adventurer I do all my training in the great outdoors but that couldn't be further from the truth. I rely heavily on gyms to ensure that I am keeping myself in the best possible shape so that I can perform to the best of my ability when out on an adventure. My priorities are to maintain my stamina, work on my weaknesses and avoid injury. By training in a gym I can focus on different aspects of my fitness, target certain muscle groups and most importantly rest parts of my body that need it the most. For me that is my knees but they can be excused as I have run over 18,000km in the last two years!

The PR company for Virgin Active has very kindly given me a few passes to try out their gyms. Rather than using them all on my local gym near Ladbroke Grove, I have decided to visit a number of their gyms across the capital. and share my experiences with you. So over the next few weeks I will be giving a short review of six Virgin Active gyms and touch on the workouts I am doing when there.
So far I have visited Ladbroke Grove, Aldersgate and Mayfair. So far Mayfair is in poll position - Wish I could train there everyday!
